If organizational or committee requirements demand that a recording is kept local and does not get uploaded to the cloud - the Panopto Recorder application can be adjusted to do that.  Please be aware however that this means the recordings will not be backed up anywhere - unless you manually copy the files to another location (such as Cabinet or Jade).

  1. Open Panopto Recorder.

  2. Under Settings tab > click Advanced Settings, then put a check mark beside "Capture in MP4 Format" click Save.

  3. Click Save.

  4. Click "Create new recording" tab...

  5. Under Folder > click the drop down arrow then click the blue "Offline Recording" button.

  6. Set  optional custom recording options. If there will be audio other than the microphone, select "Capture Computer Audio"

  7. To start recording, press the Record button.

  8. When done, click Stop. You will be told that your offline recording is complete. Press

  9. Click Done.

  10. You can test / verify that the recording didn't end up in the cloud as follows: Click on "Manage Recordings" and you will see that the new video under Offline Recordings. If you decide to upload the recording, click the "Upload to Server" button beside the video.

  • will be saved in a folder C:\PanoptoRecorder. Each new video you record this way will be stored under a unique subfolder folder with a long name.
  • Inside each recording's folder, you will see one if not two .mp4 files depending on how many screens you were capturing (for example webcam and screen capture - will result in two different MP4 files).
  • You can play these files in any player such as Windows Media Player, or VLC Player, etc.
  • You can also upload them anywhere you like (for example email them, post them, compress them etc.) as they are industry standard MP4 video files.
